Sisters Unite!
March 8 is International Women’s Day. Celebrating the accomplishments of women around the world is the perfect antidote to the end-of-winter blahs that dog the thankless month of March in Canada. As designing sisters living and working in Montréal, we count ourselves lucky to be surrounded by an army of smart, funny and accomplished ladies who fuel our creativity and foster our growing business. And let’s not forget our supportive husbands who encourage our pursuits (and take care of the kids when we’re on the road). #SoGrateful
Change is in the air, there’s no doubt about it. From box office directorial success stories (Wonder Woman and Lady Bird, to name only two) to the momentum generated by the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, the past year has been marked by strong women stepping up to the plate, taking creative control of their destinies and speaking out about issues such as sexual harassment and gender equality in the workplace. Women are making great strides in the public domain, but a lot remains to be done. Looks like we’ve got our work cut out for us.
Chosen by Status of Women Canada, this year’s theme #MyFeminism celebrates the role of feminism across Canada as well as the feminists who inspire us to make a difference and implement positive change in our daily settings. Whether you’re a stay-at-home mother, teacher, business analyst or fashion designer, the important role you play in society deserves to be recognized for its full worth and merit.
As designers, we strongly believe in the professional and personal development of women of all ages and all cultures. But more importantly, we are daughters, sisters and mothers ourselves. Thanks to strong role models and outspoken advocates for women’s rights, we are better equipped to teach our own little girls to never ever shy away from speaking up and speaking out about issues that matter to them.
#MyFeminism is believing in the ultimate power of women, especially when we unite.
